Today
we complete the marathon across the plains.
It’s a bit of a hike, 388 miles to be exact.
We
pulled out of the Shady Rest about 7:30 am and motored west. Looks just like the scenery of the past few
days.
About
the only thing to break the scenery is the occasional freight train that passes
on the tracks that run next to the highway much of the time.
We
discovered that Montana has a little different way to address construction
zones. In Michigan, they pave an
alternate lane for travel around the construction. Here, it’s a bumpy dirt/gravel road.
The
35 mph speed limit is a dream. We would
have emptied the cupboards at that pace.
Continuing
west, this scene captures the smoke in the air. The distant hills are barely visible and that
condition was a little better or worse all day.
We
arrived at East Glacier Park. MT about 3:00 pm and picked up a rental car to
use during our stay in the area.
Driving
north to St. Mary, MT and the KOA there, we encountered another wonderful
Montana construction zone.
About
30 miles north of East Glacier we arrived at the KOA and set up on site 15 with
a view of the mountains…or what view the smoke allows.
We’ve
been told the degree of smoke varies from day to day. Hopefully, we get a day or two of better
visibility.
Tomorrow
we’re going to the mountain.
