Boating 2018 is coming to a close.
With the approach of the beginning of our lap of America RV excursion, I took the Crestliner out on Lake St. Clair for what is likely my last boating of this year. I had changed the plugs and fuel filter after the Mullet Lake trip and filled the tank with treated non-ethanol fuel.
So out of the channel I went from the Clinton River at dawn.
It was a gorgeous morning. I watched the sun rise over the islands in the St. Clair flats as I motored south.
I settled in at MY honey hole off the Middle Channel of the St. Clair River. It is a "bluebird" morning and I'm excited about a morning on the water.
The excitement was short lived when I discovered the bugs were going to be an issue.
These little critters were EVERYWHERE...by the zillions!
The parade of bugs on Lake St. Clair is annoying. I need relatively calm conditions to boat on that lake and those conditions seem to mean bugs. It started with the fish fly hatch in June and apparently continues.
The good news is I did manage to land a couple real nice smallmouth bass. These are between 4 and 5 pounds. I got a walleye too.
I gave up after a couple hours of living in the swarm.
So that's it. We're working on packing up the Winnebago.
10 days to blast off.
