Day 10 – New Town, ND

It’s another travel day…it takes a few of those to get from the lakes in the east to the mountains in the west.  Today we’re heading west on US-2 to New Town, ND.

We checked out of our site and headed out from the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort and Marina and RV park and gas station.

I stopped at the gas station because I noticed it was cheaper than in the town nearby.  I’m guessing there’s a tax the tribe doesn’t have to charge.

We motor west on US-2.

This is pretty much the North Dakota scene from one end to the other.  We took the more northerly US-2 route because it's all 4 lane highway...not that there is any traffic here.

We pulled into “the” tourist attraction anywhere near here.

It’s the geographical center of North America…Rugby, ND.

Wow!  Hold me back!

The street signs tell the story.

It’s a long ways to anywhere from here.

A bit beyond Minot, ND, we turn south for several miles and approach today’s destination on the shores of Lake Sakakawea.

We’re on a peninsula on this large impoundment of the Missouri River.  I know that they fish for salmon here as well as walleye.

On the hill, in the distance, are a couple of the flames that are burning off the excess gas from one of the hundreds of oil wells that dot the landscape here.

Too bad they can't/don't harness all that energy.  There has to be a couple of these in every square mile for a hundred miles.

The haziness is created from the California fires so we’re told.  There’s a fire at Glacier in Montana as well so that could be a contributor.

So we’re here at the “4 Bear’s Resort and Casino”.

This is kind of the second miss we’ve experienced with casino run RV parks.  They do a much better job with gaming and hotels.  We’ll take our chances elsewhere from here on out.  In both cases, the amenities in the RV parks are scant.

Tomorrow, we move into Montana.
