Day 44 – The Grand Canyon

We eventually found our way to the canyon rim this morning.  I started out with the half mile bike ride to my $2 coin op shower.  It seems the priorities aren’t lined up when I can have cable satellite TV but they failed to include a shower in the restroom buildings here.  They say, you have full hookup, use your RV facilities.  Well, yes we could, but we prefer to get the campground facilities dirty.  Anyway, that was followed by the uphill return ride to the RV, then breakfast, then a bit of a hike to the neighboring lodge to use their internet and post the blog.  After all that, we boarded the shuttle to the Canyon Visitor Center, watched a 15 minute film there and we were on our way to the rim and Mather Point.

The formation at the very far left of this panorama is Mather Point.  The following few photos are from that general area.

We hiked the 2 miles from Mather Point to the canyon village.  These photos are from that trek.  There’s not much narration to offer.  It’s the Grand Canyon and kind of all looks the same but one view always seem to be a little better than the last.  Whether it is or not, you'll have to be the judge, I guess.

So that's the 2 mile tour and those are some of the nicer shots out of about 50 that I took.

And then there’s always an elk nearby to pose for the camera.

I saw a couple nice buck mule deer on the way to the shower this morning but didn't have my camera with me.  It doesn't cross my mind that there may be a photo opportunity on the way to take a shower.

We hopped the shuttle with the rest of the population here to see the sunset over the canyon.  Unfortunately, the sun doesn’t set over the canyon at this time of year from our vantage point so that was a miss.  The sun being low in the sky does create a different visual with long shadows.

We’re going to shuttle to the west end of the park (or at least the end what is accessible to us via shuttle) tomorrow.  It’s the part of the park son Jeff and I toured while son Brian and Kathy rode the mules into the canyon many years ago.

Ta-ta for now.
