Day 21 - Riverside, Washington USA

We're back!!!

We left miserable weather in Banff about 7:00 am this morning and headed west on Hwy 1.  Our trip will take us through British Columbia for most of the day.  It was a 430 mile marathon.

It's a cloudy day with low ceilings so not as scenic as it could be.  Our time in Canada has been anything but the best conditions for seeing the mountains.

On the Trans-Canada highway between Banff and Lake Louise they have built numerous overpasses and underpasses for the animals to get across the highway.

The fencing guides the animals to the crossings.  Our bus driver a couple days ago, said it reduced road kill by 80%.

The weather continues cold, rainy and foggy.  Views we hoped to have of some on the mountains near Banff weren't to be had.

We stopped at a roadside park along a river west of Lake Louise.  As you can see, all the water in this area has that milky aqua color that was apparent in Lake Louise.

We continue on going in and out of the cloudy hillsides.

We finally break into a little sunshine and catch a faint glimpse of the snowy mountain top.

I call these avalanche sheds.  They're structures built over the road to protect it from something.  I figure probably snow but it could be for rocks as well.

Heading south on highway 97, the last hour is totally fruit agriculture.  Peaches, grapes, cherries, apples and more.

There was a farm market about every mile in Canada but we couldn't cross the border with it so maybe the trend would continue in the USA.

Nope.  There were a couple apple orchards but the landscape quickly turned to scrub brush.

In Washington, I was expecting green and trees.  This looks like Utah or Arizona.

So we're parked for the night in a little wide spot in the road, Riverside, WA.  The campsite is next to a horse corral by the foot hills.  It's scenic if nothing else.

We have lightning fast internet which allowed me to catch up with the posting and more important, gained about 40° in temperature today.

Tomorrow we're passing through Washington and arriving at a state park in Oregon for two days, so I won't report again until maybe Thursday.

Time for some rest.
