Day 50 - Albuquerque, New Mexico

We left Sedona quite early this morning so we could cover about 350 miles to Albuquerque.

If I accomplished anything today, it was knowing how to spell Albuquerque.

The weather today was terrible.  This was really about the worst we've had during the 50 day span so far.  Hurricanes are likely to have that kind of effect and all this moisture is being thrown up here due to the Pacific storm Rosa.

We drove south out of Sedona and stopped a couple times to view the red rock formations on the way out of town.  Viewing wasn't the best.

Kathy walked around the corner to get a better view of something.  She wears a cotton hoodie to repel the rain...I doubt that is very successful.

We traveled across I-40 and a few pieces of the old Route 66 on the way east.  We were in and out of rain all day long.  Some of the rain was extremely heavy but in the afternoon, we managed enough sun to see a small rainbow.

We needed to stretch our legs after a couple hours on the road so stopped in at one of the many gift shops along the way.

It was actually quite interesting.  Most of the items in the store were made by local Navajo people.  It was also very expensive.  There were hand dyed and woven rugs for several hundred dollars for something the size of a throw rug.  Too rich for me.

We traveled near the petrified forest and the meteor crater sites today.  We considered both but the crap weather kept us inside all day.

Late in the afternoon we crested a hill and saw our oasis in the desert.  That's the Route 66 Casino Resort on the right which would be our landing spot for today.

We checked in and were guided to our site.

I think the RV park is new.  The sites are all paved with desert landscaping.  It's all very clean.

After settling in to our site, we headed to the casino for dinner.  Wouldn't you know it...it's "two for Tuesday" today.  We both ate at the buffet for a grand total of $12.76.  That was the best $6 prime rib dinner I ever had.

I even had the heel on one serving.  My mother-in-law would have arm wrestled me for that piece.  There were four food sections, Asian, Mediterranean, Pasta, and Western plus a salad bar, dessert table and soft and hard ice cream.  I just stuck with the prime rib.

After dinner, we headed into the casino to play our $5 courtesy money for signing up for the players card.

I lost my $5 at video blackjack and Kathy walked out with $14 out of the slots.

So that was the day.  Not the best but we've traveled a lot of miles east for a change.  Tomorrow we're headed to Roswell.  I'm not sure what to expect.  I suspect it might all be a bit corny.  We'll see.
