Whoa Nellie...there's news from the Straits this morning!
First off, can you believe it? Day 3 of dead calm.
As I promised yesterday, I crawled out of the berth an hour earlier this morning...man, was that ever painful, and got going about 5:30 am. The mission was to try to find a salmon somewhere.
As the moon sat in the west...(oh-oh full moon is usually terrible daytime fishing)
...and the sun rose in the east...
I motored out toward the bridge and set lines targeting salmon. The thought was to troll west until I found a fish or ran out of patience.
It was a dead heat for a while but I pulled this one out of the fire just before losing the patience game.
The year's first salmon. That's an Atlantic salmon maybe 6 to 8 lbs.
There are all kinds of insect hatches occurring on the water right now and I knew there had to be some of these fish somewhere around all that food.
I gave up after boating that fish since I had traveled a distance (like maybe 4 miles) and the breeze had begun to pick up just a bit and returned to the marina to clean up and get out of town for a few days.
Time to get some chores done at home.
Until later...
