I got up about my normal time this morning and meandered to the shower before heading out on a calm lake. The temperature was in the mid 30s last night so I wanted a little sun to help heat up the helm. That stainless steel wheel is like holding an ice cube when it's chilly out.
I trolled out toward the bridge for a little bit where the USCG cutter Biscayne Bay passed.
I got tired of fishing that sterile water and motored a bit east toward Bois Blanc Island.
I reset lines as a freighter was in view between Round and Bois Blanc Islands.
One of my missions this morning was to try out the trolling bags I bought about a year ago.
There's one for each side of the boat and they work very well. I think I could probably get down to about a 1 mph trolling speed with both bags in the water. With a little power applied, I was 1.7 to 2.0 mph which is where I wanted to be to run some gear for lake trout.
So I putted my way along the Bois Blanc coast.
And actually found a lake trout. Looks like the same fish I caught a week or so ago.
The best place to catch those is on the east side of that island but I didn't feel like going that far so though I'd try the west shore. The structure where I was isn't suited as well for holding trout but I was happy I caught one. I don't have much experience targeting lakers so this is all an experiment.
I gave up about 11:00 am and headed back to the marina on what became a table top kind of lake.
Here's the long version of the morning...
Back at the marina, there was more work to do. The dinghy waits.
The three dreaded words of the English language..."some assembly required".
OK, that's done.
Time to launch.
And away we go!
That all went as planned and I've got the dinghy secured at the head of the slip.
After an afternoon of this and that, it's time to call is a day.
