Day 4
The weatherman LIED. No surprise there. We left Leland this morning with a promise of 2' seas and north winds at around 10 knots. That all seemed believable as we exited the harbor at 8:00am this morning. It wasn't long before the seas began to build and we slogged our way dead against a 3' to 4' head sea. Traveling with full trim and just enough rpm to maintain plane. Even at that, I managed to rearrange much of the gear in the cabin.
I attempted to take some photos of the Traverse Point light in a pitching boat and ended up with many excellent shots of everything but the light, like this.
Although, there were a few times where the desired subject appeared in the photo by mere chance.
At that point, we turn into Grand Traverse Bay on a south heading and have a following sea less than half of what we had been fighting for an hour. Hammer down!
A maritime school in Suttons Bay sails this craft as a training vessel.
Waters continued to calm as we proceeded up into Suttons Bay.
We entered the marina and settled into our slip. Suttons Bay Municipal Marina.
We took a stroll through town to view all the local wares. For a cool $750, a hand carved trout can be yours.
The local trawler dealer demos a boat in the marina channel.
I envy people that can actually work like this. I'll just to have to settle for vacations.
This evening the bay is active with many boaters.
Tomorrow, we're off to Elk Rapids in East Grand Traverse Bay to meet up with boating friends. Forecast is for possible storms late in the day.
Looks like tons of fun! Such a nice area. Shanna
