She nearly killed me! "Oh, it's just a short little hike." Ugh!
We left Ruby's Campground in Bryce Canyon City and parked the motor home at the NPS shuttle station nearby for our transportation into Bryce Canyon National Park. After seeing the congestion as the day wore on, even people in autos would be better served with the shuttle system.
Anyway here goes. This is intended to be a rather long post, so you might want to grab some refreshment.
We started the day at two observation points. The first was Bryce Point. It looked like this...
and this...
and this...I'll just load the photos. There's not a lot to say about it all. It's absolutely breathtaking.
Those are all scenes from various places around Bryce Point.
The next stop was Inspiration Point. These locations are very close to each other...maybe a couple miles at the most.
and the scenes around that area...
The sign says "do not leave valuables in car". Half the people here are traveling and everything they own is in their car. Perhaps leaving valuables on the curb is a better option?
Yes, and if you look the other direction, it's the ponderosa pine forest.
Back to the canyon...
Not sure what this guy was digging for.
They were tame like a house cat.
The final stop (because a section of this park was closed for road construction also) was Sunrise Point. This is where the little hike is supposed to originate.
320 foot descent. That's a football field. How bad could it be?
So off we go.
This doesn't look too terrible. Enjoy the trip...
The trail is that little sliver of a path at left center of the frame. I spent much of the hike watching my feet.
Onward...
Just a walk in the park, right??? Just wait a few frames.
Remember I said it was only a football field? What they failed to mention was it was straight up. We begin the ascent. This is looking back (down the trail).
And here was the final straw...a switchback to scale the cliff. Back and forth a half dozen times on a steep incline. I was longing for my Florida hospital bed.
Finally, at the top at Sunset Point where we caught the shuttle back to the motor home.
After a lunch in the shuttle parking lot, I washed a week's worth of dirt and bugs off the motor home in a Truck/RV wash that was next door to the shuttle lot. With everything in order, we set out for Springdale, UT and the Zion National Park.
First leg was through Red Rock Canyon.
Which turned into plains.
Then approaching Zion Park which is part of the route into Springdale.
The texture and color of the cliffs are interesting.
The park service charged us $15 to pass through this tunnel with our oversized vehicle. They hold up traffic so we (and every other motor home) can drive through on the center line.
Then on into Springdale and the Zion Canyon RV Park which will be our home for a couple nights before we point the house in a northerly direction.
We'll use a shuttle system again tomorrow, so won't need to move the house. Forecast high temperature is 101 degrees so it might be a brief stay in the park. We'll start early so can miss some of the heat.
Ta-ta for now.
