OK, boating fans…it’s time for North Channel 2016!
We packed up the minivan and headed north Saturday
morning. How does this much stuff fit in
and on a 30’ boat?
There’s an outboard, inflatable boat, generator, clothes,
food, etc. I think our needs will be
met.
It hasn’t rained around here in quite some time, but as
soon as I found the boat, so did the rain.
It was a brief line of showers and soon the sun created a
rainbow to the east…
…as another load of “fudgies” returned from the island.
It’s still pretty much “our” marina. Only one other boat on this pier and maybe 4
or 5 others in the entire marina.
I’m not sure anyone else is actually here. There isn’t anyone currently aboard the large
cruiser near us.
It’s now Sunday and what is really day #1 of our adventure.
Well, it may be time, but the weather gods don’t seem to
be in sync with our schedule so…
Time for some shopping at the craft fair in the park next
to the marina.
We stop at any booth full of jewelry or cloth.
There was some thought of trying to get out of here today
as the winds subsided for a bit, but soon the weather closed in (the bridge
towers disappeared into the fog) and the winds built from the NW…
Anyway, I got out the inflatable and unrolled it for assembly and the unthinkable...
That black spot in the middle is a HOLE!!! Oh no!!! I carry all kinds of patching material for it but wasn't sure about a hole quite that size. All I can do is patch it and see what happens.
There...all fixed???
So here I am relaxing in the marina lounge (it's where the internet works) with a view that's really not too shabby.
If I look out the side window, I can see across the Straits to Mackinac Island.
That's the triumph and tragedy of the day.
Time for dinner and an evening stroll.
Still looks like we'll be here for another day or two before the winds subside.
